The account holder will release a financial report to the public

He says funds raised up to $80,000 The account holder said in a phone interview Monday that he will release a financial report for David’s Journey Fund soon.

Bertie Wapachee, 46, is monitoring and managing the fund for the public. “I’m the account holder right now,”  he said. The fund is for patients with cancer who need financial assistance while they are in medical care at the Montreal hospital. 


“We talked about how we can implement policies,” Wapachee said. The public have been asking questions about the fund and how it is being managed. 

“People shouldn’t worry about how the money is being handled,”

he said.  David Coonishish, 41, the founder of David’s Journey, said that he transferred all of the funds to another name and has no access to process any payments. “I can’t just go to the bank and take the money out of the account,” he said.

Coonishish said that the only person authorized to the account is Wapachee.

“I really want to thank everyone in the Cree Nation for supporting our cause in David’s Journey.”
